Telecom Manholes

In my neighborhood there are many manhole covers with the names of companies, past and present, cast into these relics. My interest is specific to communication networks with facilities buried under my neighborhood streets.

Communications is intrinsically national, unlike sewer and water, so the manholes represent a trail of mergers and acquisitions in technology that has always interested me.
